Did I mention that Jack and I are taking this adventure in our golden years?  Who says there's no adventure after 65?  There's nothing like birthing those goat babies and watching them grow!  All of our goats are gentle and love to be around people.  I wouldn't call them pets because they still have an onry streak!  But, they are "loving!"

We decided in 2005 to try the meat goat business and responded to an ad in the Thrifty Nickel, "goats for sale."  We were invited to a goat farm located 7 miles west of Muleshoe owned by Patrick and Callene Zapalac.   They very kindly began showing us their goats and answering all our questions.  Wow!  They really helped us a lot that day.  We ended up buying a young 88% boer billy and 2 bred nannies.  That was the beginning of our amazing journey and the beginning of one of the most beautiful relationships.  We can't tell you how much they have taught us and are helping us along our journey even today.

Our journey continued as we were visiting Doc Gleason's office one day getting meds for one of our goats.  We were asking him if he knew anyone in the area raising goats.  He gave us the name of a couple in Levelland, Texas, Dink and Terri Lenard .  We called them a few days later and they invited us to come by and see their goat operation.  We dropped by one evening and had the best visit with them and looked at all their goats.  Then as we started to leave, Terri invited us for supper and more "goat chat."  They gave us info for ABGA, an order form for the Goat Rancher Magazine and a copy of The Boer Goat.  Wow!  Another great relationship has been our blessing! We have also had a lot of advice and help from a precious friend, Darwin McLeod in Littlefield, Texas. He has so much knowledge to draw from.  When I am in a bind, I often call Darwin.
We just thought we were getting into the goat business and did not realize what wonderful people we were going to come in contact with on our journey.  We continue to meet some of the nicest folks as we buy and sell goats and work with them.  We have learned that we like some of the qualities of the old style and love the sleek style of the new.  We plan to use the advantages of both to arrive at top notch.
